Daily Dose - Saturday 4th Week

VALENTINE'S DAY! Couples - stuff the candlelit dinners and the sex - try something new and drink in some culture. Singles - don't just stay in and get smashed with your same-sex mates - rise above it all and go to see a play. Better than forlornly checking your pidge every half-an-hour. I've got nothing so far...

7pm - City of Oxford Orchestra at the Sheldonian Theatre. They're playing a medley of music under named 'A Salute to Love'. Sounds a bit cheesy but it includes RACHMANINOV PIANO CONCERTO 2 which is bliss and worth a listen. Tickets range from £10 to £27.

7.30pm - Philadelphia Story by Philip Barry - OFS - A comedy about remarriage - £9/£7

7.30pm - Black Comedy by Brindsley Miller - BT - Hilarious scrapes in a dark flat with fiancees, in-laws, millionaires etc. What fun.

7.30pm - The Entertainer by John Osborn - O'Reilly - A darkly comic play, centered around the decline of the music hall tradition. - £7/£6

7.30pm - Magdalen Film Society are showing He Loves Me...He Loves Me Not and Amores Perros. Magdalen auditorium - £3 for non-members. Salt in the wound if you ask me.

8pm - Beethoven Violin Sonatas (no.s 6 and 8) at the Jacqueline du Pre Music Building, St Hilda's. Played by very eminent people I gather. Tickets are £5 for students.

8pm - Borderville, Dying Animals, Hearts in Pencil play at the Wheatsheaf. Glam rock and grunge punk for V day. £5

8pm - The restaurant the Big Bang are having a poetry reading. Go along and read a love sonnet or anti-Valentine's day invective. It's all free (but I assume you still pay for food). Sounds quite fun.

9.30pm - Squirrels by David Mamet - BT - "Art is not art? Then what is art? Think about it. I've got to pee." This will be brilliant, go see it - £5/£4.
